I have seen a few of these guys lately- I am not sure if it is a hairy or downy woodpecker.....any ornithologists want to guess?

I concur; Red-bellied Woodpecker (although I always wondered why the red cap on the head when it's called "red-bellied"). The downy and hairy have a lot more black and white up over the head/neck.

We get lots of these in my parent's backyard in Lancaster. Lots of all 3 types, actually.

I must agree- I thought the hairy picture was not red enough on the head, but I didn't think to check out the red-bellied pictures...Ryan- you can start the Google birds =)
